One of the possible Senate pick-ups this year for the GOP is in purple state Iowa. State Senator and Iraq combat Veteran Joni Ernst is making head-way in the most recent poll against her Democrat opponent, liberal Congressman Bruce Braley. Despite Iowa going for Obama twice, the folks out there still maintain their Midwestern values and Ernst hasn’t shied away from that, running a campaign both in the primary and now, centered on individual responsibility, traditional values, and freedom from government intrusion into our lives.
Ernst’s campaign so far doesn’t appear to be afraid to expose her opponents record on things such as his support for Obamacare and Amnesty, in addition to exposing the fact that he’s been a reliable yes-man for Nancy Pelosi in the House!
Ernst was the Tea Party choice in the primary, who benefited by early support from Sarah Palin and other prominent conservatives. Since she won her primary earlier this year, Ernst has changed her tone a little on issues like Social Security, but still makes it clear that she is largely in favor of privatizing it to ensure it’s preservation.
The only worrisome thing about Ernst was a comment that she made in a recent debate with her opponent on the issue of immigration. Ernst said that she wanted to bring the 11 million or so illegal aliens “forward,” but did make it clear that she opposed amnesty! In fairness, Ernst also said in that debate that she opposed the so-called “gang of eight” Senate bill, which her opponent praised. I’ve pasted Sunday night’s debate below!
The open Iowa U.S. Senate race is one of many battleground Senate races this year. It’s also one of about eight possible GOP Senate pick-ups this Fall! I will profile this race in more detail in future posts, as well as other important Senate races taking place this midterm election season. I encourage you to learn more about this race and Ernst by checking out the information below.
Remember, conventional wisdom tells us that the GOP only needs to gain six seats to dethrone Harry Reid from power! However, as I’ll detail in a future post, the GOP doesn’t have a complete lock on the Senate, contrary to what many pundits are saying! Everyone seems to be focused on the half a dozen or so Senate races that show the GOP ahead, but what many fail to realize is that there are several GOP Senate seats that could swing to the Dems this year! Mitch McConnell’s seat in Kentucky and Pat Robert’s seat in Kansas are just two of them! It’s entirely possible that the GOP could pick-up six seats, but still be denied the Majority! More about that later on! Stay tuned! Read and watch below!
