ACTION ALERT for all Patriots in Surf City! Help City Councilman Erik Peterson Stop High Density in H.B.!

For all Patriots who live in Huntington Beach, there’s a very important City Council meeting tomorrow night that requires your attendance and participation!

In addition, it’s crucial that H.B. residents sign their names to a petition opposing high density developments! These petitions will be presented to the City Council meeting tomorrow night, where this issue will be front and center on the agenda. Details below!

As we all know, these behemoths have become a blight to our communities and these projects tend to put the interests of big business developers over the best interests of local tax payers.

In Huntington Beach, this issue has been a particularly sensitive one, with most residents believing that these projects cause more traffic congestion, blight our neighborhoods, urbanize our bedroom communities, and increase crime.

High density developments in Surf City are completely out of control and these eye-sores have caused voters to reach the boiling point!

Last November, in a historic election, voters sent a huge message by tossing out two Progressive incumbents who were very supportive of these projects and replacing them with a more conservative-leaning City Council majority.

At least one of these new replacements, local businessman Erik Peterson, is honoring his commitment to put an end to these projects and help restore our city’s character.

Councilman Erik Peterson is fulfilling his campaign promise and the least we can do is stand with him as he tries to persuade his fellow Council Members to vote the right way on his agenda item this Tuesday night! Local Surf City Patriot Cari Swan fills us in on all the details and explains how we can help! Read below!

Dear Friends,

Our new Councilman Erik Peterson has added agenda item #13 to the next city council meeting that requests the city place a moratorium on new developments in the Beach Edinger Specific Plan (BESP) until impact reviews have been completed. Councilman Peterson is doing exactly what we asked him to do during the election. Stop the high density developments. Now he needs your help to get this agenda item approved by a 2/3 vote or 5-2 vote.

Here is how you can help:
1. Show up and Speak* in favor of the agenda item at the next TUES FEB 17 City Council meeting at 6pm in City Council Chambers
*It’s ok if you do not want to speak. We need to FILL the council chambers! Bring a some neighbors!!!

2. Write an email to all city council members using the following email address: and copy to:
A sample letter is attached (filename: HighDensityHitem). Please use it as a sample and make appropriate modifications.

3. Printout the attached letter (2 per page – filename HighDensity2up) and obtain signatures from your friends and neighbors. We will collect them from you before the City Council meeting. The goal is to present hundreds of letters at the city council meeting.

If you cannot attend the city council meeting, please help us with item number 2 and 3.

Thank you so much for your help and feel free to call me with any questions!!! Time to take our city back!!

P.S. Feel free to forward this email to friends who are concerned about HIGH DENSITY development in Surf City.

These hi-rise apartment complexes are ridiculous! These living areas are going to add thousands of people to a 2 block radius.
Southern California is in a sever drought, where is their water going to come from when I can only water my lawn twice a week?

  2. Vern Nelson says:

Excuse me, Erik Peterson or Michael Hoskinson, could you please correct this?

“Last November, in a historic election, voters sent a huge message by tossing out the two Progressive incumbents who were the deciding votes on these projects and replacing them with a more conservative-leaning City Council majority.”

I know there were lots of things conservatives and Tea Partiers didn’t like about the two progressive incumbents in question (Joe Shaw and Connie Boardman) but high-density was not one of those issues.

The fact is EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE of what you wrote: Joe and Connie were the ONLY OPPOSING VOTES on council against the monstrosity at Beach and Ellis; they never voted for the Beach-Edinger Specific Plan as they weren’t on council then; they started the pushback against it last fall (some say because election day was approaching but whatever); and their close ally Jill Hardy not only voted against the Specific Plan originally, but is expected to support Erik’s motion.

This rewriting of history helps nobody. High Density has strong opposition from all sides of the spectrum, including us liberals and environmentalists. Please correct that paragraph, thank you. And I’ll see you all there tonight.

    • Kelly says:

Vern, I find it hilarious that you think Erik Peterson and Mike Hoskinson are my Editors for this blog! These two Progressives may not have voted on the two specific projects that you cited, but there are other high density projects in H.B. you know? Those two were very much in favor of the whole sustainable development issue and high density, even though they may not have voted in favor of Ellis and were not around for Edinger. They are on record saying they supported these monsters and it was widely known their views on this issue.

      • Vern Nelson says:

Well, I don’t know you and I do know those two guys. But can you please cite an example of Joe and Connie saying any such thing? Let alone being the “deciding votes” on any such thing.

Apart from it not being true, it’s very unhelpful to try to make those of us on the left/environmentalist side the enemy here. Both honest left and honest right are up against THE BIGGEST MONEY here, and we need to work together if we’re gonna git ‘er done.

  3. David says:

Interesting that Kelly never came back to answer Verns question. When I read Kelly’s post about Shaw and Boardman I knew he was terribly misinformed (and really, I’m being kind here).

  4. David says:

Still waiting for a response from “diligent researcher Kelly”. Your silence is deafening.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY – Deuteronomy 4:29-31 (NIV)

"But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey him. For the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your forefathers, which he confirmed to them by oath." 3-7-16

QUOTE OF THE DAY: Donald Trump from”Crippled America” (Posted on 3-7-16)

"But then I realized I couldn't stand what I was seeing. I couldn't believe the hypocrisy and inaction of Washington 'insiders' who wanted to keep the gravy train flowing in their direction, while outside the beltway, Americans were suffering and they were rightfully angry about the lack of leadership and creativity. . . . It begins by creating millions of good jobs for hardworking Americans."
