Between this fantastic news and the Council’s recent repeal of the plastic bag ban, this new City Council is obviously moving Surf City in a more pro-citizen, pro-taxpayer direction in a big way!
This is also a perfect example of why it’s important to elect the right folks in office! Erik Peterson, the only Constitutional Conservative on the City Council, is demonstrating his commitment to putting his citizens first and he’s fulfilling his campaign promises, which is a rarity these days from our elected officials!
Elections really do have consequences and Councilman Peterson is proving that all of the hard work and effort in helping him get elected was worth it!
Local Surf City Patriot Mike Hoskinson fills us in on what happened the other night and don’t forget to check out the Register article! Read below! Kelly
Good day all,
We notched another win at City Council last night, Councilman Erik Peterson brought up a moratorium on the Beach/Edinger Specific Plan and it passed 5-2. BECSP is a 5 mile zone from the 405 to the beach that facilitates over-the-counter approvals of Agenda 21/Sustainable Development mixed-use apartment buildings at 100 units per acre. The citizens have been screaming bloody murder after they’ve built and finished just 2 of them and 8 more are in construction with a number more in the pipeline.
2 people from the Chamber and 3 developers spoke at council, all three referenced their interpretation of CA law that they believe limits a city’s ability to place a moratorium without proof of potential “harm” to the citizens; it was their way of threatening a lawsuit without actually doing it. They also played the “we must grow” card; the standard line for anyone that wants to build and is being held back. HB has 193k citizens, will they say “we must grow” when that number hits 300k ? there really is no end to that line of thinking unless you find a better way to grow and produce revenue than flooding your city with high density developments. (and I challenge whether these developments really bring the bacon home long term)
The City Manager called Councilman Peterson in to a meeting a few days ago, he needs the revenue for pensions and is getting nervous that a moratorium might derail his last few years on the job. I’ve been saying for awhile that HB is a “pension problem with a city wrapped around it”…we’re seeing how badly the the crony capitalists, unions and the Green Left are all collaborating against the will of the people on this issue.
All in all a story of very small, wealthy special interests and the Green Left trying to force more of these city-killing developments over the wishes of nearly 100% of the citizens.
After the historic rejection of two incumbents in November the new council has made solid forward motion, a first for CA bag ban repeal, stopping of new taxation and now an attempt to stop Agenda 21 in its tracks….pretty good record for 2 months !!
Hope all is well, if you have any questions please call me directly.
