Among the many false attacks being funded by the Unions on behalf of the establishment/liberal candidate in this race for State Senate Assemblyman Don Wagner, are those claims that John Moorlach, the conservative in this race, is against fundamental gun rights and opposed the issuing of CCW permits in the past.
Just for the record, there is absolutely no indication in John Moorlach’s long career as our former County Supervisor for two terms, in addition to his long service as our former Treasurer, that he is in anyway hostile to our 2nd Amendment rights, or has ever opposed the issuing of CCW permits in this County.
I’m sure you would agree with me in saying that I would never support a candidate running for office who has supported gun control in the past, or has shown a lack of understanding of our fundamental Constitutional right to keep and bear arms! This particular allegation is just another of the many desperate hit-jobs being levied against Moorlach by John’s Union-supported opponent and there is no evidence to back-up any of these claims!
I would direct your attention to John’s response below on this very important issue and I would also encourage you to do your own homework regarding John’s record on CCW’s! You will not find one incident or indication in John’s long record that he supports gun control or is opposed to our gun rights!
Regarding the NRA endorsement of Don Wagner, I would remind you that the NRA is a special interest group, which has a long history of even supporting some Democrats in the past and even came within a hair of endorsing Harry Reid in his re-election efforts in Nevada in 2010.
Even though the NRA is a very respectable organization, it is nonetheless a special interest entity that supports candidates regardless of how they stand on 99% of the other issues!
I would caution folks not to read too much into such an endorsement, especially when you consider that Don Wagner’s history is a history of catering to the lobbyists and the special interests in Sacramento, and the NRA and the gun lobby are no exception!
Read John Moorlach’s statement below and tell me if this sounds like someone against the second amendment? John Moorlach for State Senate!
I have always been supportive of the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms. I doubt I would have been a productive member of the California Republican Assembly’s statewide board if I were not.
My upbringing instilled this position in me. My mother, my aunt, and her five brothers grew up on a farm in northern Holland. They were avid hunters, as ducks were a nuisance to wheat growers.
During World War II, the Nazi occupation resulted in a demand that all firearms and radios be turned in. If you want to control a free people, confiscate their ability to arm themselves.
My father-in-law, a Purple Heart recipient from an injury sustained during his service in France, was a professional gunsmith and firearms instructor. I doubt if he would have given me my wife’s hand if I were not pro-gun.
Freedom and liberty demands that this nation’s citizens be able to purchase and own fire arms. Self-preservation also demands that they be able to obtain concealed carry weapon (CCW) permits.
I even used to be a member of the NRA. There comes a point when you can’t be a member of every worthwhile organization, so I let my membership lapse.
Sheriff Hutchens attempted to disrupt the issuance of CCW permits in 2008. I counseled her privately to change her stance. My office also responded to all inquiries as to the legal rights that the Sheriff had as an independently elected official. But, I never changed my position on the right to bear arms and carry a concealed weapon. John Moorlach
