I think it is necessary to preface this post by expressing up front that in my view I don’t think that Donald Trump is an authentic conservative, nor do I believe that he has a record of ever being a conservative on the issues.
In fact, based on my review of his past, there is actually quite a bit of evidence to show that he has been more favorable to Democrats and liberals over the years and has routinely sung the praises of people like Nancy Pelosi and even gave money to the Clinton foundation, etc.. You will clearly see on the bottom of this page that Donald Trump was given three red flags and is not worthy of the nomination in my opinion.
However, having said that, there is no question at all that Donald Trump is speaking for perhaps millions of conservatives out there! There is also no question that his bold style and his tell-it-like-it-is approach is resonating with the Tea Party base and with folks of all stripes throughout this country that are frustrated with Washington’s do nothing approach on illegal immigration matters.
For the clueless and out of touch media and for the always clueless GOP establishment, who are scratching their heads wondering why he keeps climbing in the polls, perhaps they need to grow a brain and realize that Trump’s rise has nothing at all to do with him per se as a candidate, but has everything to do with what he is saying and how he is saying it!
It also has a great deal to do with how angry folks are with Washington right now and with the GOP establishment in general.
Trump’s polling success is due to the base rebelling against the conventional wisdom from the Washington and New York elites of both parties, and from the media, and from the political consultant class.
Those folks don’t seem to understand that the more they trash him and complain about his righteous indignation toward RINO’s like John McCain and Lindsey Graham, and the more they take his words out of context on illegal immigration and other things, the more the base likes him and the further he climbs in the polls! It really is just that simple and it doesn’t take a rocket-scientist to figure this out!
This is clearly a rebellious streak that we are witnessing from conservatives and it is being manifested through support for Donald Trump.
You’ve heard of James Dean being a rebel without a cause, well these are rebels with a cause and conservatives have every right to be angry and frustrated with their own party right now!
I bet that most good conservatives who support Donald Trump right now actually know down deep that the guy isn’t a conservative, or has ever been a conservative on the issues, but they support him regardless because he is speaking the truth and saying things that we all desperately wished our candidates and politicians would say and speak, especially on illegal immigration issues!
It is the base telling the establishment: To heck with you, or perhaps using more colorful language!
You can liken it to a rebellious teenager who is determined to do the complete opposite of what his parents want him to do! That is how the base is reacting toward the establishment right now and it is being done through the vehicle of Donald Trump.
Trump is also regarded as an anti-politician figure and an outsider from Washington, that of course has a lot to do with his support!
The bottom-line is Trump’s rise of support should not be mistaken for personal support for Trump himself, but rather his support should be regarded as an anti-establishment support and it is evidence that the base is rebelling against the permanent political class, particularly of those GOP leaders in Washington!
Those same GOP leaders in Washington who just killed efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and of sanctuary cities, but are working overtime right now to pass the re-authorization of corporate welfare known as the Export-Import bank! These are the folks that are fueling more and more this kind of frustration and anger from conservatives!
In a weird way, Donald Trump just so happens to be the most visible beneficiary right now of all this anger and he is riding a big wave because of it!
If the GOP establishment doesn’t get a clue real soon as to amount of anger there is out there directed towards them and because of their lack of leadership, they run the risk of alienating their base permanently!
Instead of bashing Trump and calling those who show up at his rallies “crazies,” perhaps they need to listen to us more and do the things in Congress that we elected them to do, namely, and for starters, they need to defund Planned Parenthood, and defund Obamacare and his illegal amnesty! Oh, and while they’re at it, they might want to defund sanctuary cities too!
Those efforts would be good starters and it would show a measure of good faith on their part and it would demonstrate true leadership!
If the GOP wants to remain relevant in the future, they better start listening to us and adhering to the promises that they made to us on the campaign trail before we busted our humps to give them the majority! Otherwise, they should expect more of this kind of enormous anti-establishment backlash from the grassroots!
That frustration may not always manifest itself through support for Donald Trump, but make no mistake about it, it will manifest itself in a big and powerful way!
Watch the video below of Scottie Hughes from the Tea Party News Network on CNN yesterday. She was on with David Brody and with another fellow who was a former Romney-adviser and obviously one of these GOP consultant types.
Check out how out of touch this former Romney guy is and how clueless he is to the level of frustration there is out there! This is exactly why the GOP is in such big trouble with conservatives and with most Americans! These folks just don’t get it! They are totally clueless! Watch below!
